Okay here are some pages from the Black Panther/X-Men crossover Wild Kingdom I worked on with writer Reggie Hudlin. I pencilled the Black Panther issues, 8 & 9, while Salvador Larocca did the art on the X-Men issues, 175 & 176.

This was one of my fave pages I did for the crossover, featuring T'Challa interrupted from hacking into the computer system, by a large, hairy armed assailant.

is there a special sort of paper you use like bristol vellum or is it just comic book paper you find at a comic supply store?

either way great work with the shadowing and layout!

I'm not sure what the Marvel boards are, but the Image boards were a smooth Strathmore Bristol board 400 series, I think 3 ply. Marvel use a lighter weight board, with a little more tooth, but it's great for pencilling.

You should be able to get Strathmore Bristol boards at any good art store, but try sampling different paper at the art store and see what works best for you. There are also companies that specialise in printing pre ruled blueline comic boards too.

thanks a lot for the advice. I tend to use strathmore bristol on various things because its easier to use a crow quill ink pen on than toothy paper. I haven't done comics in a while but I plan on returning to my graphic novel very soon. so how do you do the final shadowing? is it only graphite/ink or do they use computer generated screen tones?

For this project I just did the pencils, then Jay Leisten inked over blueline copies of my work. Dean White then coloured it in Photoshop, I believe.

Hehe definitely U are my New DA Idol! I always wandered what kind of pencil do U artists often use, and the size of the sheet of paper that U draw on.

I use a 2mm clutch pencil. Hardness of the lead depends on the paper I'm using. I usually use a 2H on most of my comic pages now, but I have used H, F and HB in the past.

Paper size is 11" x 17". Most artwork is usually kept in the 36.9 cm x 23.4 cm area, unless you're doing a full bleed page.
