Injustice: Gods Among Us 17 p 10 Corrections by davidyardin Injustice: Gods Among Us 17 p 10 Corrections by davidyardin
These are upcoming corrections for the print version of Injustice: Gods Among Us (issue #6) and future digital versions (chapter 17).

The panels on the left were the panels which were originally released digitally, which I only pencilled (they were inked by another inker). The corrected panels on the right I pencilled, inked and coloured. You'll obviously get a better view of the differences at full size.

Alright, i will admit i saw this, and laughed, and back then i thought "oh god what the fuck, who draw this?". I didn't know it wasn't your fault (nor who did it). After seeing this, all i can say is i am really sorry that happened to you, and that i judged only on a caption linked to Facebook. Damn, your art is AWESOME!.

I remember seeing these panels when they first came out, comparing them to the rest of the issue I was really confused why these ones changed so drastically in quality. But now after seeing the original intention its crazy to see the difference it makes!

Very nice panels, I really like the differences between both as well, almost a one of these things is not like the other kind of feel lol. AND you show the reason why lighting is effective and makes a picture pop. NICE!!!

holy crap dude... that inker didn't go anywhere near your pencils... no disrespect to the other parties - but they really butchered your pencils. Hope you find the another inker who compliments your vision very well.

I didn't know Batman parents were brother and sister. :giggle:

But seriously, that's a very... interesting interpretation of your pencils. I would have liked to have seen your face when you first saw that embellishing.

Again with the odd faces... and those TEETH, sheesh! I'm so glad you had the chance to make these corrections. This colorist seems to be a bit on the light and airy side too. Not so bad but they could stand to add some contrast and edginess here and there. Your corrections are definitely raising the quality level.

I've seen inks missing the point before, but not at the extreme you've shown in these last few samples!?!

From looking at other original pencils and then inks closely, the inks can sometimes lose a bit of flare and nuanced emotion of the pencils. I often see little facial lines at the eyes, nose, mouth and jawline changing just enough to lose that special quality the penciller put in. You can see the same problems with color.

Though do not dispel inks and colors, a good inker and colorist can completely transform mediocre pencils into a fine piece of art. You need a good team that understands each others decisions and makes the right choices when laying down your mark. When they gel you get some absolutely fantastic collaborative art!

Nice work on the corrections, btw!! ;)

Seems like the inker has quite an issue with eyes and teeth. This is the reason I'm actually a fan of artists doing all the artwork by themselves. Dividing work between pencilers, inkers and colourists takes away much from the artwork.

almost a good point but this is just a prime example of why a GOOD inker is hard to find.

Well, no one is denying that. There is a number of penciler-inker teams that do a superb job. I guess they just have to suit each other.

Yes finding an inker who is not only good, but understands stylistically what you are trying to do is tough. And even if you do find an inker, sometimes you can't use them due to a book's budget, or deadline/scheduling clashes. When a creative team meshes well together though, the results can be better than if just one person did it all.

is this why you have put up some of the pencilled pages for inkers to try for practice?

...because after seeing how beautiful your pencils are on those pages its hard to imagine how it could become what you've shown above.

Top left Batman looks like The Maxx with a Batman cowl. haha.

It wasn't just about fixing inks that I felt were unfaithful to my pencils; I've had some not so great ink jobs done to me before that I've just moved on from. For the most part I went back to fix these mistakes because the worst panels were pulling readers out of the story. Reader's were laughing at the artwork, in what were meant to be poignant, heart wrenching scenes.
