Injustice: Gods Among Us 17 p 8 Corrections by davidyardin Injustice: Gods Among Us 17 p 8 Corrections by davidyardin
These are upcoming corrections for the print version of Injustice: Gods Among Us (issue #6) and future digital versions (chapter 17).

The panels on the left were the panels which were originally released digitally, which I only pencilled (they were inked by another inker). The panels on the right I wanted to totally re-ink and re-colour, but I was fast running out of time, so I had to settle for doing digital corrections. Not perfect, but I'm a little happier. You'll obviously get a better view of the differences at full size.

I just went to the pencils. There was no excuse for those panels to be that far off. You gave the inker all the info needed, and it seems to have been ignored. I was going to preface that by saying, "No offense", but, as an inker, I don't need to say that: the work doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Inking should be an IMPROVEMENT on the pencils, not a loss of information.

This is why it's golden to do your own inking whenever you get the chance. It's so easy for another to completely screw it up. >.<

you need someone who really meshes with your style man... i can't believe how awful they've treated your work.

was the inker deliberately trying to sabotage your work?
Coz at the lowest panel, Selina's left eye is totally off.
Maybe the inker was trying to see if he can ink using his foot!!!

What the other inker has done on the eyes in the last panel defies any explanation. WHY?

Okay, now this page is better, but that last panel on the left... come on! I don't know if the inker on the left was just in a hurry or if that is truly how he/she truly interpreted what they thought they saw in your pencils, but I think it is irresponsible and a little insulting to the reader whenever I see weirdly inked faces and consistently crossed or googly eyes. How could you be satisfied with yourself after inking that?

I was thinking "oh, this one isn't so bad" but then I saw the last panel.

The top two are only minor digital tweaks. The last panel was the major one I needed to fix on this page.

The inking could have defiantly been better, but I feel the most improvement is your coloring because the original digital coloring is flat and sad most the time. We are lucky you redid the ink and color to keep the integrity of the original pencils that you did.

The original colourist had very little time to colour the pages though.

I guess in the long run it always comes down to the three point rule. Quality;Time;Cost. You can only have two and must sacrifice on one. Always seems with art we want to change or improve something, but deadlines demand otherwise. I suppose I couldn't hold that against the original color artist; I've had professional work where if I had just a couple more hours I could have been happier with it.

David in this one things are much clearer where you brought up the art level. Its sad with these three pages there are things that Le Beau really missed it appears. Also that the colorist kinda let things slide as well. I'm curious what the dead line was like for this issue.

There were other pages that had flaws too, but this is all I had time to concentrate on fixing. The colourist had very little time; I'm surprised they got the book done at all.

I'm surprised that you had the time to go back at all. I've not collected the Injustice comic but I've had the pleasure of looking at a few issues since I looked at your page. Really nice work, the compositions and the overall look of the book are really sharp. I am looking forward to either getting the collected trade and or whatever the next book you hop onto.

Good inkers who mesh well with a penciller, are unfortunately hard to find.

yup. I really like inking myself. That way when it looks bad I only have myself to blame. ;)

Injustice is a weekly comic, so the deadlines can be rough. If someone is hired to do a job, and there is no time to change it, that is what the publisher publishes. Mistakes happen. Unfortunately these ones were pulling readers out of the story. Fortunately there was time for me to make some corrections for the print version.
