Step 2. Inks

Moving on to the inks I start tightening everything up. On this piece I used Windsor & Newton Series 7 #2 brush, Speedball Super Black India Ink, and Rotring Rapidographs. I used a fairly bold line on the hair outline, because I already knew at this stage I was going to knockout the lineart and create a rimlight at the colour stage, so I wanted it a little thicker. I also inked the clouds at this stage, but I wasn't 100% happy with how they turned out. You''ll maybe also notice her chin is slightly bigger at this stage, and I actually ended up trimming it off a bit.

I'm pressed at how you got rid of the pencil lines. Did you clean it up digitally or used an eraser?

Very nice! May I ask you if I could use it to do some exercise on colour? I plan to post it on DA with credits and a link back to this original works when I'm done

I wonder what made you decide to go away from the thicker lines you made in your pencils and make them pretty thin in this stage like in most of her left (our right) side..... the thicker and darker lines for the hair for the rim shot, thats pretty smart, never would have thought of that, thanks for that=]

I don't really think about line weights at the pencil stage, unless I am passing it on to another inker. Therefore the thicker lines in the pencils were more about me finding where to place the outline, rather than their weight.

I do want to try a bold outline on a future piece though.
