Just out of curiosity:
Do you always do warm up sketches? If so, how long do you typically spend on them? And are they always set, finished pieces like this one or are they more typically random doodles on rough/spare photocopy paper?
Sorry for all the pain in the bum questions.
It depends what stage of a drawing I'm at, and what my deadlines are like, whether I do warm up sketches.
If I'm in the zone already and know I can jump straight into a drawing (or if I don't have much time) I'll go in cold, but it definitely helps to do some sort of warm up, even if it is just cross hatching, or doodling on paper beforehand. I don't always do finished drawings for warm up, this one just happened to morph into an inking exercise too.
