Bamboo or Intuos?

Wed Feb 27, 2008, 3:57 AM
So I'm considering getting a Wacom tablet, either the Bamboo Fun Medium, or the Intuos3 in the equivalent size. From what I can see with the Intuos you get double the sensitivity, extra keys, tilt, option to use different pens. I'm thinking the tilt and different pens are only really going to be useful if I'm "painting" something. What about the sensitivity, are the differences that noticable? I don't mind paying extra for the Intuos, but is it worth the extra cash? :?

I had a quick try of the Bamboo small, which I didn't mind, was only really disappointed with the size, but the medium looks like it should be okay... Maybe I just need to find a shop which has both on display.

Hey David,

Man, if you can afford it, go for a cintiq! Seriously, these things are worth the money and so great to work on.

you sure you couldn't spring for a cintiq? the 12wx is a new budget priced model and it's really great.

but from your choices, i would go with the intuos. the precision you get with that tablet is fantastic. i've not had the chance to try the bamboo, but i have used a graphire, and that was like trying to draw with a broken hand. if it's a matter of tablet size--that really doesn't matter. i used to work on a 6x8 intuos2 for three years and it was fine no matter image size or resolution.

anyway, just my thoughts!

Go with the intuos if you plan on doing art with it. The Bamboo is really only for getting around your desktop with something other than a mouse. It's for the casual user. You'll appreciate the difference in sensitivity when you start doing brush strokes with it on a regular basis.

Intuos if you can afford it.

All I have is a graphire and I'm struggling with it (though it could be because I suck).

Get the Intuos.

I've never used the Bamboo but I understood it to be for the general craftsperson and folks who are just "playing around".

Men.., absolutely the intuos..

I had a graphire and it was like your friend in the end, the comes the intuos.., became the m8..

Im just going to tell you this..

The intuos has pressure AND POSITION SENSIVITY for example for the Painter.., so I think is worth it..

anyway.., go and check any forum and they will tell you the same..

Greetings..!

And dont think that for long..!

Well.. for me personally, it comes down to what programs you will be using with the tablet. If you are using photoshop, or another program similar... then the Intuos is the way to go, by far. But if you're just looking for something other than a mouse... then it would be the Bamboo.

I use a 9x12 Intuos tablet, and it has completely revolutionized the way I create art. I now do all of my sketches and thumbnails right on the computer, and then I can use that as a layer to base my true line-work on and continue from there.

But basically it all boils down to what you want to use it for. Although the Intuos will give you the option of just using it to replace your mouse, or for more in-depth creativity - you have the sensitivity very similar to pen/pencil on paper.

Hope that helps. :-)

Give in to the Intuos side, David. It is your Desssstiny...

Most pros are total Intuos hoes.

I've lived on mine for 5... almost 6 years now. I bought it in college and it's been great to me ever since. I had a graphire before that and seriously, I noticed the difference when I upgraded.

And yeah, go for the 6X8, the 4X5 can lead to carpel tunnel. No good.
